Update From Doctors Without Borders

Update From Doctors Without Borders - MSFlogo 2 e1590096138281

HumankindNOW donated a total of 6,000 N95 masks to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).  We wanted to update you on the result of this donation.

Supplies are desperately needed right now in Puerto Rico to protect essential medical staff. MSF is particularly concerned with how the pandemic will affect Puerto Rico’s most vulnerable populations: the homeless, people living with HIV, and earthquake-stricken communities. MSF is working with healthcare providers, non-profit organizations, enterprises, and local health facilities that are visibly active regarding their work with affected communities.

On May 18, 2020, HumankindNOW’s donated masks were delivered to emergency rooms, blood banks, surgical doctors, and two medical universities. The universities are at the frontlines of COVID-19, yet fell into a grey area when it came to state-provided PPE allocation.

These masks have provided relief to some of the hardest-hit parts of Puerto Rico and were donated as part of HumankindNOW’s goal to provide 10,000 medical professionals in the US with the PPE necessary for their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A huge thanks to HumanKindNow for these donations. Not only have the masks been welcomed with gratitude by the health partners here,” said Sophie Delaunay, Project Coordinator for MSF in Puerto Rico, “but they are also helping us open some doors from health facilities which had remained closed until now.”

HumankindNOW continues to supply PPE to both essential workers and front line organizations. As well as helping almost 2000 essential healthcare workers, HumankindNOW has supplied PPE to Doctors Without Borders, Navajo Nation, San Francisco VA Health Care System, and Multicare Spokane.

HumankindNOW aims to raise $2.5 million in donated cash and PPE supplies in order to protect 10,000 US essential healthcare workers at an estimated cost of $250 each. Tax-deductible financial contributions of all sizes are currently being accepted. One hundred percent of financial and supply donations will be used to provide PPE directly to essential healthcare workers at no cost to them. Essential healthcare workers can submit requests for PPE at HumankindNOW.org.

Together, we will defeat this threat to humanity by deploying our most powerful weapon: human kindness.
